You are not average.
The chances that you would be born into this world, exactly as you are, at the time that you were born, were 1 in 400 trillion.
Read that again.
1 in 400,000,000,000,000.
There is, and never has been, anyone like you in the history of the world. Literally.
There never will be again.
You arrived here with a set of unique gifts, talents and ideas that no other human being on Earth has in the exact combination that there were given to you.
There is something in you that’s screaming to get out and hold the world in its sway. You have “ah ha!” moments every day – times when you light up with genius that bubbles just under the surface of your day-to-day life.
And you ignore it instead of acting.
Some of the world’s greatest inventions, art, innovations and world-changing ideas never saw the light of day.
The people who came here to bring them to life talked themselves out it – usually before they ever got started.
ANYTHING you want is possible.
Whatever you dream about can be your reality – but first, you have to stop pretending you’re okay without it.
You might have to give up the TV shows you use to escape a life you hate.
Maybe you’ll have to confront the fact that you spent four years in college studying for a career that’s sucking the life out of you.
You’ll have to face the force that keeps millions of people where they are, just anesthetized enough to think that settling for average is okay.
Obstacles on the Road to Greatness
This won’t be easy. When you decide to go after exactly what you want – to be uncommon and get exactly what you came here for out of life – you will meet obstacles.
The first one will be yourself.
Once you sink into the habit of living on autopilot, it takes some serious effort to pull yourself out of that inertia.
And pull you must. What got you to this point won’t take you where you dream of being.
You can do it, though. You are not average.
Make the mental shift to exceptionality. Then, get up off your butt and create it.
The People You Love Won’t “Get it”
Once you set out to transform your life, you’ll face some well-meaning family member, friend or coworker who wants to drag you back to the status quo.
Don’t you dare go back.
The people around you have good intentions (probably). They don’t want to see you ‘put yourself out there’ and fail. Your family has an idea of what’s “good for you” based on generations of programming and a lifetime of knowing who you used to be.
Friends and coworkers will want you to stay with the pack. Your unusual behavior will force them to look at themselves. By kicking the average habit, you’ll shine a spotlight on anyone in your circle who’s giving less than 100%.
No one likes to have their boat rocked.
Don’t give up on yourself to keep someone else comfortable.
Ready to Kick the Average Habit? Here’s What To Do
Get crystal clear about what you want.
You can’t hit a target you can’t see, so make things easy on yourself by making a plan.
This doesn’t have to be everything you’ll ever want, but you’ve got to start somewhere. No idea what you want? Thank goodness you found this blog post!
Not having any direction is easy to fix. Make it up. Sit down and think. Focus on what you’d like to do if you had no limits. Write down the first thing that bubbles up. Don’t censor yourself.
The idea is probably way bigger than you imagined. It came from somewhere. Embrace it. That’s the magic.
All great success starts with a decision to do something amazing. Until you’ve made up your mind to achieve your goal, you won’t have the necessary energy to take those first steps.
Once you decide to go after it, fortune moves toward you. Make a decision. Then, burn the boats and give your goal 100%.
Get like Nike.
Now that you know what you want, get up and make it happen. Just do it. Forget about failure. The fact is that you’ll probably suck at it for at least a little while. Who cares? You’re making the effort…you’re front-loading your “this blows” hours in preparation for the magic that is to come.
One quick note: If you don’t feel like it, do it anyway. You will never feel like it – you’re fighting inertia. Your brain wants to take the easy way out because it’s comfortable. Screw easy. Force yourself to do the unusual things that you know will make the difference for you.
There’s a myriad of talents that you haven’t even tapped into yet. Most people die with their music still in them. (- Oliver Wendell Holmes)
Don’t be that guy.
